Toyota Crown X (S150) photos

The milestone tenth-generation Toyota Crown (S150) debuted in 1995. The most significant update was the complete abandonment of the body-on-frame construction for all passenger variants, including the traditional sedan (only the specialized Crown Comfort taxi retained a frame). Thanks to the unibody chassis, the vehicle shed over 100 kilograms of weight, offered a more spacious interior, and delivered sharper driving dynamics. The exterior design became more rigid and angular compared to its predecessor, returning to classic executive car proportions.

The engine lineup featured upgraded 2.0-liter (1G-FE) and 2.5/3.0-liter (1JZ/2JZ) inline-6 engines. Toyota introduced its VVT-i variable valve timing system, significantly improving engine flexibility and fuel efficiency. In 1997, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) was added to the options list. All-wheel-drive variants (i-Four) received an updated, more sophisticated AWD system. The S150 generation is widely regarded as a symbol of the durability and reliability of late-90s Japanese automotive engineering.
