Toyota Crown VI (S110) photos

The sixth-generation Toyota Crown (S110 series) debuted in 1979. The design was an evolutionary refinement of the previous generation, retaining straight lines but introducing a more aerodynamic body, eliminating front quarter windows, and featuring rectangular headlights. For the first time, buyers were offered two-tone exterior paint schemes, which became a hallmark of premium Japanese cars in the 1980s. The interior of high-end trims featured a revolutionary fully digital instrument cluster, a mini-refrigerator, and a premium audio system.

The technical specifications underwent significant upgrades. In 1980, the Crown S110 became the first in the model's history to offer a turbocharged engine—the 2.0-liter M-TEU. Naturally aspirated inline-6 engines (up to 2.8 liters) and a 2.2-liter diesel were also available. Toyota introduced a highly popular four-door hardtop body style lacking a B-pillar. This generation firmly established the Crown as the most prestigious mass-produced vehicle in Japan.
