The second generation Toyota Corona (T20/T30 series) launched in March 1960. The exterior adopted American design influences, featuring a wide horizontal chrome grille, wrap-around windshield glazing, and subtle rear tailfins. The body range expanded beyond the four-door sedan to encompass a five-door station wagon (Corona Light Van) and a two-door pickup truck. Interior accommodations advanced significantly with padded dashboard surfaces and upgraded vinyl seating.

Engine offerings included 1.0-liter P (45 hp), 1.5-liter R (60–73 hp), and 1.9-liter 3R (90 hp) four-cylinder gasoline engines (exported to North America as the Toyota Tiara). The T20 marked a milestone as one of the first Japanese cars offered with an optional two-speed Toyoglide automatic transmission alongside a three-speed manual. Suspension comprised front double wishbones and a leaf-sprung rear live axle. Facelifts in 1962 and 1963 added quad round headlamps.
