The tenth generation Toyota Corona (T190 series) debuted in February 1992. The exterior adopted smooth bio-design curves with a low drag coefficient and an elevated beltline. Sold in Europe twin-badged as the Carina E, the line offered a four-door sedan, five-door liftback, five-door station wagon, and the stylish Corona EXiV four-door hardtop. The comfortable interior provided expanded cabin volume, dual front airbags, acoustic soundproofing, and automatic climate controls.

Powertrain technology featured Toyota's Lean Burn engines, including the 1.6-liter 4A-FE (105 hp) and 1.8-liter 7A-FE (115 hp). The performance GT trim was powered by a 2.0-liter 3S-GE DOHC engine producing 175 horsepower. Standard offerings included a 1.5-liter 5A-FE, 2.0-liter 3S-FE, and a 2.0-liter 2C diesel. Transmissions were five-speed manuals or four-speed automatics, with available Full-Time 4WD. Facelifts in 1994 and 1996 updated grille mesh and rear lights.
