The ninth-generation Ford F-150 arrived for 1992 featuring a major aerodynamic front-end redesign with a contoured hood, rounded fenders, and flush grille. Interior safety was enhanced for 1994 with the addition of a driver-side airbag, high-mount stop lamp, and side-impact door beams.
In 1993, Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT) launched the high-performance F-150 SVT Lightning powered by a tuned 240 hp 5.8-liter V8 with GT40 cylinder heads and upgraded suspension. Standard powertrains included the 4.9L I6, 5.0L V8, and 5.8L V8. Ninth-generation F-150 production ran into early 1997.
