Ford Fathom Electric Pickup Will Cost Under $40,000 Even In Top Trim
Amid an ongoing vehicle affordability crisis in America where high prices keep new cars out of reach for millions of consumers, Ford is positioning its upcoming Fathom electric pickup as an accessible solution. The automaker continues to target an entry-level price just under $30,000 including destination charges, but now confirms that even higher trims will remain relatively affordable.
Andrew Frick, head of Ford Blue and Model E, revealed to the Detroit Free Press that the Fathom lineup will top out in the high $30,000 range, offering several different configurations below the $40,000 mark. Frick said the Fathom's starting price is at the heart of the market. Ford expects the truck to attract new and used EV buyers as well as gas and hybrid buyers, citing lower ownership costs.
Bringing the revolutionary truck to market presents substantial manufacturing and supply chain hurdles. Ford CEO Jim Farley previously acknowledged that launching the vehicle at scale, at cost, and on schedule requires tremendous effort. Chief Operating Officer Kumar Galhotra noted during a recent earnings call that Ford is actively working to secure a robust supplier network capable of delivering high-quality components at high volumes over the coming months.
Manufacturing preparations are already advancing, with Ford having produced more than 5,000 large aluminum unicastings. These massive cast components form the core of the truck's novel architecture, engineered specifically to eliminate parts, cut complexity, and reduce assembly costs.
In terms of packaging and performance, Ford claims the Fathom will provide more cabin room than a Toyota RAV4 while matching the straight-line quickness of an EcoBoost Mustang, which reaches 60 mph in the high four-second range. Farley highlighted its engaging driving dynamics and integrated Apple Maps navigation as standout features for an entry truck. Preorders are scheduled to open early next year, with the official unveiling planned closer to its launch in late 2027.
