Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Delivers 795 Horsepower and 10-Second Drag Times in First Testing

The 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC bridges the gap between traditional dragstrip muscle and road-course performance. Developed over four years in conjunction with the Mustang GTD and GT3 race programs, the SC arrives as a factory-engineered package that redefines high-end Mustang capability.

Under the hood sits a wet-sump version of the 5.2-liter Predator V-8 equipped with an Eaton TVS R2650 supercharger, previously seen in the Shelby GT500. The powerplant produces 795 horsepower at 7,200 rpm and 660 lb-ft of torque at 4,600 rpm. Power is routed exclusively through a seven-speed Tremec dual-clutch automatic transmission. Straight-line acceleration is made easy through dedicated track software: engaging Drag mode allows up to 15 seconds of tire-warming burnouts via the line-lock function, while the integrated launch control propels the car forward seamlessly. Testing at Sonoma Raceway yielded an initial 10.86-second quarter-mile run at 1,800 launch rpm, with Ford engineers recording passes as low as 10.3 seconds and an expected 0–60 mph time of around 3.0 seconds.

Beyond straight-line speed, the chassis features extensive revisions. All SC models come standard with MagneRide adaptive dampers, forged aluminum suspension links, stiffer springs, revised knuckles, front control arms, uprated anti-roll bars, a magnesium front strut-tower brace, and a reinforced steering rack. Braking is handled by oversized Brembo units featuring 16.5-inch front rotors with six-piston monobloc calipers and 14.5-inch rear rotors with four-piston calipers.

For serious circuit duty, the optional $36,500 Track Pack transforms the coupe into a near-GTD performer. It adds Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, bespoke damper calibrations, carbon-fiber wheels saving 30 pounds of unsprung weight per corner, and GTD carbon-ceramic brakes. Aerodynamic enhancements include an adjustable two-way carbon rear wing, removable front splitter extensions, and an integrated decklid duckbill spoiler. At 180 mph, Track Pack models produce 620 pounds of rear downforce while keeping front lift to 68 pounds. Overall curb weight for Track Pack cars is listed at 4,110 pounds, 153 pounds lighter than the base 4,263-pound SC.

On the street and road course, the Dark Horse SC demonstrates impressive balance and control, pairing sharp front-end grip with flat cornering while retaining a compliant ride and an adjustable active exhaust in everyday driving.
