The fourth-generation Ford F-Series was introduced for the 1961 model year. Early models (1961–1963) featured an innovative integrated 'unibody' Styleside design combining the cab and cargo box. However, body flex under heavy loading prompted Ford to revert to traditional separate cab and bed construction for 1964.
In 1965, Ford introduced its ground-breaking Twin-I-Beam independent front suspension using twin forged steel axle arms, delivering unprecedented ride comfort and stability for a pickup truck. Powerplants expanded to include 240 ci and 300 ci Big Six engines alongside the 352 ci FE V8.
