The sixth-generation F-Series (dubbed 'Dentside' due to its concave side body channel) was produced from 1973 to 1979. In 1974, Ford introduced the extended SuperCab option. Crucially, in 1975, the F-150 nameplate was introduced to bridge the capacity gap between the F-100 and F-250, bypassing strict catalytic converter EPA mandates.
Engine lineups included 302 ci, 351 ci, 360 ci, 390 ci, 400 ci, and massive 460 ci (7.5L) V8 powerplants. Rectangular headlights debuted for 1978 on high-trim models. In 1977, the F-Series became the best-selling truck in the United States, a title it has held continuously ever since.
