The third-generation Ford F-Series debuted in 1957, bringing modern aesthetic changes to light trucks. It introduced the smooth-sided 'Styleside' cargo bed flush with the cab doors, offered alongside the traditional step-sided 'Flareside' bed. The front hood was widened to cover the inner fender aprons completely.
In 1959, Ford introduced factory-installed four-wheel-drive systems (previously converted by Marmon-Herrington). Powertrains included the 223 ci Cost Clipper inline-six and the 292 ci Y-block V8 producing up to 186 hp. The generation established new styling benchmarks for American utility vehicles.
