About this generation

The thirteenth-generation F-150 pioneered high-strength military-grade aluminum-alloy body construction.

Introduced for the 2015 model year, the thirteenth-generation F-150 revolutionized pickup truck design by utilizing an all-aluminum body structure mounted to a high-strength steel frame. This engineering bold move reduced total curb weight by up to 700 pounds (318 kg), yielding superior payload ratings and fuel economy.

Powertrain technology expanded with a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, an updated 3.5-liter EcoBoost paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and a 3.0-liter Power Stroke V6 turbodiesel. The second-gen Raptor adopted a 450-hp high-output EcoBoost V6 and terrain management. The lasting engineering impact of this generation remains a key benchmark in Ford's global model evolution history. 2027 Ford Ranger To Replace 2.7-Liter V6 With Detuned 3.0-Liter Twin-Turbo Engine
