About this generation
Thirteenth generation of the Toyota Corolla compact series featuring a four-group modular electrical architecture and four powertrain types.
The thirteenth-generation Toyota Corolla introduces a redesigned exterior inspired by Toyota's compact concept car, along with an updated cabin and a specialized electrical architecture. Instead of adopting a single centralized computer, Toyota engineered a modular electronic layout divided into four distinct groups: driver-assist technology, cabin controls, body electronics, and motion control. This structure allows the automaker to tailor each subsystem directly to the chosen powertrain and trim level.
Supported by this four-group electrical platform, the thirteenth-generation Corolla accommodates four different powertrain configurations across global markets: a conventional internal combustion engine, a traditional hybrid, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and a battery-electric vehicle (BEV). Replacing the outgoing twelfth-generation 1.8-liter and 2.0-liter units is a newly developed family of lighter, more fuel-efficient 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter inline-four engines, led by the 1.5-liter unit. The model lineup continues to offer both sedan and hatchback body styles.
