About this generation

The eleventh generation Toyota Corolla (E160/E170) launched in 2012 featuring an extended wheelbase and sharp, modern exterior aesthetics. The model achieved widespread global popularity due to its reliability and practicality.

Debuting in 2012, the eleventh-generation Corolla was split into two main architectures: the narrow-body E160 for Japan and the wide-body E170/E180 for international markets. The global sedan benefited from a wheelbase stretched by 100 mm (to 2700 mm), yielding exceptional rear legroom. The styling was dramatically updated with sharp LED lighting, a prominent front grille, and an updated dashboard layout with modern infotainment integration. Engineers paid meticulous attention to structural body rigidity, minimizing noise, vibration, and harshness levels while enhancing cabin material quality. The refined chassis architecture delivered excellent ride comfort and predictable handling characteristics across both urban streets and high-speed highways.

Engine choices featured 1.33L, 1.6L, and 1.8L Dual VVT-i petrol engines alongside a 1.4L D-4D turbodiesel. In Japan, the E160 line included Toyota's hybrid powertrain option. The main transmission became the Multidrive S CVT with 7 simulated stepped ratios, complemented by a 6-speed manual gearbox. A 2016 mid-cycle facelift added restyled bumpers, full-LED headlights, and improved interior trim materials. Global production of E170 ended in 2019. High levels of active and passive safety were corroborated by outstanding crash test results and comprehensive driver assistance technologies. Thanks to exceptional mechanical endurance and robust powertrain engineering, this generation earned global acclaim across all major automotive markets.
