The twelfth generation Toyota Corolla (E210) built on the TNGA platform introduced multi-link rear suspension and highly efficient hybrid powertrains.
Unveiled in 2018, the twelfth-generation Corolla (E210) adopts Toyota's New Global Architecture (TNGA-C platform). This shift yielded a 60% increase in torsional body rigidity, a lowered center of gravity, and an independent multi-link rear suspension that replaced the previous torsion beam setup. The global model reunited all three primary body styles under the Corolla moniker: sedan, five-door hatchback, and Touring Sports station wagon, complemented by standard Toyota Safety Sense driver assists. Engineers paid meticulous attention to structural body rigidity, minimizing noise, vibration, and harshness levels while enhancing cabin material quality.
Engine offerings include a 1.2-liter turbo, 1.6-liter, 2.0-liter Dynamic Force petrol engine (M20A-FKS), and fifth-generation self-charging hybrid systems (1.8-liter and 2.0-liter). Transmission options feature an intelligent 6-speed manual (iMT) and the Direct Shift CVT incorporating a launch gear for immediate throttle response. A 2022 mid-cycle update enhanced digital instrumentation, media displays, and hybrid electric output. The E210 generation remains in active global production. High levels of active and passive safety were corroborated by outstanding crash test results and comprehensive driver assistance technologies.
