Suzuki Alto V (HA12S) gallery (1998–2004)
The fifth-generation Suzuki Alto hatchback (HA12S) was produced from 1998 to 2004.
Unveiled in October 1998, the fifth-generation Suzuki Alto (HA12S/HA22S/HA23S chassis series) adapted to expanded Japanese kei-car dimensional limits. The body grew wider and longer, offering increased passenger space and structural rigidity. Unique trim lines included the retro-styled Alto C featuring round headlamps and chrome trim, alongside the high-performance Alto Works powered by a boosted K6A engine.
Powertrains included the 657 cc F6A (54 hp) and DOHC K6A (54 to 64 hp) three-cylinder engines. A mid-cycle update in 2000 (HA23S series) introduced lean-burn VVT technology to the K6A engine for improved mileage. Transmissions included 5-speed manuals, 3-speed and 4-speed automatics, and a CVT.
