Launching for the 2009 model year, the twelfth-generation F-150 introduced refined exterior sheet metal and a reinforced frame. The SuperCrew cabin was lengthened by six inches to provide best-in-class rear passenger volume. Cabin convenience expanded with tailgate step options, flat rear floor storage, and Ford SYNC connectivity.

Powertrain updates in 2011 introduced the landmark 365-hp 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 alongside the 5.0-liter Coyote V8. This generation also saw the birth of the SVT Raptor off-road performance truck, equipped with a 411-hp 6.2-liter V8 and internal bypass Fox Racing shocks.
