About this generation

The fifth wide-body Toyota Camry (XV50) introduced in 2011 featured executive exterior styling, enhanced cabin soundproofing, and updated 6-speed automatics.

Launched in August 2011, the XV50 generation emphasized executive prestige with angular body surfaces and clean architectural lines. Toyota offered distinct front styling packages: a formal chrome-trimmed design for Europe and Asia and a sportier look for North America. Interior isolation was upgraded with acoustic windshield glass, high-grade soft materials, and modern Toyota Touch multimedia interfaces. Engineers paid meticulous attention to structural body rigidity, minimizing noise, vibration, and harshness levels while enhancing cabin material quality. The refined chassis architecture delivered excellent ride comfort and predictable handling characteristics across both urban streets and high-speed highways.

Powertrain selections included a 2.0-liter 1AZ-FE (later upgraded to the D-4S 6AR-FSE), a 2.5-liter 2AR-FE four-cylinder (181 hp), and the 3.5-liter 2GR-FE V6 (249–277 hp). The hybrid powertrain combined a 2.5-liter Atkinson engine with electric drive for 205 total hp. A comprehensive 2014 facelift (often designated XV55) completely redesigned front bumpers and lighting. Global XV50 production ended in 2017. High levels of active and passive safety were corroborated by outstanding crash test results and comprehensive driver assistance technologies. Thanks to exceptional mechanical endurance and robust powertrain engineering, this generation earned global acclaim across all major automotive markets.
