Launched in July 1990, the V30 series Camry was designed specifically for the Japanese domestic market (JDM). From this point, Toyota bifurcated the Camry lineup into narrow-body models (V30, constrained under 1700 mm width) and wider international models (XV10). The V30 offered both conventional four-door sedan and stylish pillarless four-door hardtop body variants featuring frameless door glass and upscale trim levels. Engineers paid meticulous attention to structural body rigidity, minimizing noise, vibration, and harshness levels while enhancing cabin material quality. The refined chassis architecture delivered excellent ride comfort and predictable handling characteristics across both urban streets and high-speed highways.

Engines for the V30 ranged from 1.8-liter (4S-FE) and 2.0-liter (3S-FE/3S-GE) inline-fours to a 2.0-liter V6 (1VZ-FE) and a 2.0-liter 2C-T turbodiesel. Available high-tech features included full-time 4WD, four-wheel steering (4WS), and TEMS electronic suspension adjustment. Transmissions were 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. A mid-cycle update in 1992 refreshed the lights and grille. V30 production ended in 1994.
