Unveiled in January 2006, the XV40 generation introduced a dramatic shift toward sleek, athletic design with a wheelbase expanded to 2775 mm. Featuring a refined chassis architecture, VSC stability control, and push-button start options, the sedan offered exceptional quietness and ride comfort. Significantly, the XV40 marked the debut of the Camry Hybrid featuring Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive technology. The Hybrid variant combined a Atkinson-cycle 2.4L engine with an electric motor for 187 total system horsepower. Transmission choices were 5-speed manual, 5- or 6-speed automatics, and e-CVT. A 2009 mid-life update refreshed exterior trim and lighting. Production concluded in 2011.
