About this generation

The fifth Jetta transitioned to PQ35 platform engineering, multi-link rear suspension, a bold chrome grille, and TSI/DSG gearboxes.

The Volkswagen Jetta V (Typ 1K) launched at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show, globally restoring the Jetta model nameplate. Underpinned by the PQ35 platform with an independent multi-link rear suspension, it delivered superior driving dynamics. Design features highlighted a large chrome front grille shield. Body options were a four-door sedan and the SportWagen estate.

Engines included 1.6 MPI, 2.0 FSI, a 2.5-liter five-cylinder (170 hp for North America), 1.4/2.0 TSI turbo engines (GLI model), and 1.9/2.0 TDI diesels paired with manual, automatic, or 6/7-speed DSG transmissions.

Volkswagen Begins Production of 2027 Atlas at Chattanooga Plant

Volkswagen has kicked off production of the redesigned 2027 Atlas three-row SUV at its Chattanooga, Tennessee factory. Equipped with a 282-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, the vehicle reaches dealerships in October, while the two-row Cross Sport version will follow in early 2027.

Volkswagen Lengthens ID. Buzz Cargo Electric Van by 250 Millimeters

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has unveiled the long-wheelbase version of the ID. Buzz Cargo electric work van, adding 250 millimeters between the axles. The extended model features 4.4 cubic meters of cargo capacity, an 86-kWh battery pack, and a wider sliding door designed to fit a Euro pallet.

Volkswagen Unveiled Mission Efficiency Concept EV With Record 0.158 Drag Coefficient

Volkswagen has revealed the Mission Efficiency concept, an ultra-aerodynamic electric coupe built on the MEB+ platform as a spiritual successor to the XL1. During a test drive from Wolfsburg to Vienna, the prototype covered 1,278 kilometers on a 54.9-kWh battery with a single recharge, achieving an energy consumption of 6.89 kWh per 100 km.
