Redesigned 2027 Volkswagen Atlas interior gains 15-inch touchscreen and massaging seats
The redesigned 2027 Volkswagen Atlas introduces an upgraded cabin designed to be more premium, family-friendly, and convenient to use. While the overall look adopts richer materials and a more modern layout, Volkswagen has shifted more core functions to digital displays, which presents both ergonomic improvements and a few familiar frustrations.
The dashboard has been reimagined with an upright architectural layout. Across the fascia runs a horizontal trim piece bordered by genuine wood and accented with ambient lighting that makes the panel appear to float after dark. Lower trims receive light-colored wood, whereas the top-tier SEL Premium R-Line gains dark coffee-finished wood. The ambient lighting system offers 10 colors on base models and 30 colors on top trims, illuminating dot-matrix patterns across the passenger dashboard and doors, as well as the center console cupholders.
Digital technology takes center stage with a 10.3-inch Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro instrument cluster. Infotainment screens grow across the range: base versions feature a 12.9-inch touchscreen, while higher trims upgrade to a 15.0-inch display, both replacing the previous 12.0-inch unit. By moving the gear selector to the steering column, Volkswagen freed up center console room to install two magnetic wireless charging pads alongside standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A multifunction Driver Experience dial controls volume, drive modes, and customizable cabin Atmospheres such as Nature, Minimal, and Lounge. A head-up display is included on the top two trims.
Passenger comfort is improved with 12-way power front seats featuring enhanced four-way lumbar support, ventilation, and newly optional full-back massage. Second-row occupants gain optional seat ventilation and dedicated B-pillar air vents. Seat upholstery ranges from leatherette and Varenna leather up to Nappa leather on the top trim, complemented by color schemes including Airy Mistral Gray, Garnet Red, and Soul Black. Revised door panels integrate release handles into lower-mounted armrests for a cleaner profile.
Cabin dimensions remain spacious across three rows. First-row and second-row legroom are unchanged at 41.7 inches and 37.6 inches, while third-row legroom grows slightly to 34.1 inches. Cargo space provides 21.2 cubic feet behind the third row and 55.9 cubic feet with the third row folded flat, though maximum cargo room drops slightly to 94.5 cubic feet. Standard family equipment now includes rear sunshades, dual cargo area hatch lights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, proximity keyless entry, remote engine start, and USB ports in all three rows. Upper trims add a 115-volt second-row outlet and an optional 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
