The Volkswagen Jetta III (Typ 1H) was introduced in 1992. In European markets, the car was renamed Volkswagen Vento, while North America retained the established Jetta moniker. The design featured smoother contours achieving a drag coefficient of Cd 0.32 alongside enhanced structural safety. It was manufactured strictly as a four-door notchback sedan.
Engine offerings encompassed 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrols, 1.9 SDI and TDI direct-injection turbodiesels, and a range-topping 2.8-liter VR6 engine producing 174 hp. Dual front airbags and ABS brake systems became standard equipment.
