First generation of the Toyota Corona Mark II mid-size car (X10 series), introduced as a larger and more luxurious version of the standard Corona.
The first generation Toyota Corona Mark II (X10 series) debuted in September 1968 to bridge the market gap between the modest Corona and the flagship Crown. Offering expanded interior room and upgraded standard appointments, the model was produced in an unusually wide array of body configurations, including a four-door sedan, two-door hardtop coupe, five-door station wagon, and a two-door pickup truck. Exterior styling was highlighted by a formal rectangular profile, chrome trim detailing, and quad round headlamps. Cabin appointments focused on driver comfort, featuring upholstered bucket seats, acoustic insulation, and available air conditioning.
The rear-wheel-drive platform integrated an independent front double-wishbone suspension coupled with a leaf- or coil-sprung rear live axle. Powertrains comprised naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engines ranging from the 1.6-liter 7R to the 1.9-liter 8R and 2.0-liter 18R, yielding outputs from 85 to 115 horsepower. Transmission choices included three- and four-speed manual gearboxes alongside Toyoglide two- and three-speed automatics. A minor cosmetic update in 1970 refreshed the front grille pattern and revised the rear taillamp clusters.
