Toyota Hilux I (N10) photos

Launched in March 1968, the original Hilux (N10 series) was developed by Toyota affiliate Hino Motors to succeed the Briska and Stout pickup lines. Built upon a rugged ladder-frame chassis, it incorporated an independent double-wishbone coil-spring front suspension and a rear solid axle on leaf springs. Offered exclusively as a two-door Regular Cab pickup with short or long cargo bed options, it focused on utility and commercial haulage. Engineers paid meticulous attention to structural body rigidity, minimizing noise, vibration, and harshness levels while enhancing cabin material quality. The refined chassis architecture delivered excellent ride comfort and predictable handling characteristics across both urban streets and high-speed highways.

Under the bonnet, initial N10 models featured a 1.5-liter 2R petrol engine producing 77 horsepower, upgraded in 1971 to a 1.6-liter 12R engine (90 hp), alongside 1.9L and 2.0L 8R/18R engines for North American markets. Transmission was a column- or floor-shifted 4-speed manual driving the rear wheels. Production of the N10 generation ran until May 1972.
