Toyota Hilux VI (N140) gallery (1997–2005)
The sixth generation Toyota Hilux (N140/N150/N160) launched in 1997 bifurcated the range into commercial utility and personal sport-recreation trims.
Unveiled in September 1997, the N140–N170 series Hilux split the lineup into commercial workhorse models and personal leisure trims. Personal specification models featured wider track widths, chrome exterior accents, and elevated ground clearance. Body formats remained Single Cab, Extra Cab, and Double Cab. Engineers paid meticulous attention to structural body rigidity, minimizing noise, vibration, and harshness levels while enhancing cabin material quality. The refined chassis architecture delivered excellent ride comfort and predictable handling characteristics across both urban streets and high-speed highways.
Engine selections included 2.0L, 2.4L, 2.7L, and 3.4L 5VZ-FE V6 petrol engines, while diesels saw the introduction of the 2.5-liter 2KD-FTV D-4D common-rail turbodiesel (102 hp). Gearbox options comprised 5-speed manuals and 4-speed automatics. A 2001 mid-cycle update restyled the front grille and lamps. N140 production ran until 2005. High levels of active and passive safety were corroborated by outstanding crash test results and comprehensive driver assistance technologies. Thanks to exceptional mechanical endurance and robust powertrain engineering, this generation earned global acclaim across all major automotive markets.
