The fourth generation Toyota Hilux (N50/N60/N70) launched in 1983 introduced Double Cab layouts and legendary structural indestructible strength.

Introduced in August 1983, the N50 series featured bold exterior lines with flared wheel arches. The range broadened cab choices significantly, offering the two-door Xtra Cab with storage behind the seats and the full four-door Double Cab accommodating five adult passengers. Engineers paid meticulous attention to structural body rigidity, minimizing noise, vibration, and harshness levels while enhancing cabin material quality. The refined chassis architecture delivered excellent ride comfort and predictable handling characteristics across both urban streets and high-speed highways. The interior design prioritized driver ergonomics, featuring intuitive control placement, supportive seating, and a generous cargo capacity.

Engine selections ranged from 1.8L and 2.0L petrol units to the EFI 2.4L 22R-E, a 3.0L 3VZ-E V6, and 2.4L 2L/2L-T diesels. In 1986, 4WD models transitioned to an independent front suspension (IFS) setup with torsion bars. Renowned for structural endurance highlighted in Top Gear's destruction test, N50 production ran until 1988. High levels of active and passive safety were corroborated by outstanding crash test results and comprehensive driver assistance technologies. Thanks to exceptional mechanical endurance and robust powertrain engineering, this generation earned global acclaim across all major automotive markets.
