About this generation

The sixth wide-body Toyota Camry (XV70) introduced in 2017 adopted the TNGA-K platform, offering dynamic handling and expressive athletic styling.

Unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2017, the XV70 represented a radical transformation. Built upon the modular TNGA-K platform, the vehicle lowered its center of gravity by 20 mm, increased torsional rigidity by 30%, and introduced double-wishbone rear suspension. The global design united all markets under a single cohesive look characterized by a low hood line, aggressive front grille, and fastback roof silhouette. Engineers paid meticulous attention to structural body rigidity, minimizing noise, vibration, and harshness levels while enhancing cabin material quality. The refined chassis architecture delivered excellent ride comfort and predictable handling characteristics across both urban streets and high-speed highways.

Engine offerings introduced the Dynamic Force family: 2.0L M20A-FKS, 2.5L A25A-FKS (203–206 hp), and the 3.5L 2GR-FKS V6 (301 hp), along with Toyota Hybrid System II delivering 218 system horsepower. Automatic transmissions upgraded to 8-speed Direct Shift gearboxes. All-wheel drive became optional on 2.5-liter models. A 2020 mid-cycle update introduced a standalone touchscreen interface and Toyota Safety Sense 2.5. Production ran until 2024. High levels of active and passive safety were corroborated by outstanding crash test results and comprehensive driver assistance technologies. Thanks to exceptional mechanical endurance and robust powertrain engineering, this generation earned global acclaim across all major automotive markets.
