The seventh-generation Nissan Sentra (B17) adopted a more upscale design inspired by Nissan's larger sedans, a lighter platform, and a broad global footprint under multiple nameplates.
Built from 2012 to 2019, the seventh-generation Nissan Sentra (B17) was developed as a unified global compact four-door sedan, sold as the Sentra in the Americas and Russia, the Sylphy in China and Asia, and the Pulsar sedan in Australia. Compared to the outgoing B16 generation, the B17 shed weight while stretching its wheelbase and overall length on an updated C/MRA platform, yielding more rear legroom, greater trunk capacity, and a sleeker silhouette styled after the larger Altima and Maxima sedans. Depending on the target market, the engine lineup shifted toward fuel efficiency with a 1.8-liter MRA8DE or a 1.6-liter HR16DE naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, mated to either a manual transmission (five- or six-speed) or a next-generation Xtronic CVT with sub-planetary gearing. A comprehensive facelift for the 2016 model year introduced Nissan's signature V-Motion front grille, reshaped boomerang-style headlights, revised hood and fenders, retuned suspension and steering, a modernized dashboard, and available driver-assistance features such as blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control. Following the update, North American buyers also gained access to the sporty SR Turbo and Sentra NISMO variants powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged MR16DDT engine. The B17 enjoyed wide distribution across North and South America, China, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and CIS markets.
