Production 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid With 225-HP e-Power System Tested on U.S. Roads
Following earlier stints in preproduction prototypes, a first drive of the production U.S.-spec 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid across neighborhood streets, interstates, and California State Highway 154 toward San Marcos Pass reveals how the third-generation E-Power system performs in everyday North American conditions. The 1.5-liter turbocharged DOHC 12-valve three-cylinder engine (148 hp and 171 lb-ft) does not directly drive the wheels. Instead, it acts purely as a generator to supply electricity to a battery and two AC synchronous permanent-magnet electric motors: a 202-hp, 243-lb-ft front motor and a 134-hp, 144-lb-ft rear motor. Combined output reaches 225 hp with standard electric all-wheel drive.
Under heavy acceleration up mountain grades, the three-cylinder engine switches on with only a faint, distant hum that fades quietly into the background when throttle demand eases, helped by a well-insulated cabin. Off the line, the Rogue Hybrid feels brisk, with an estimated 0-60 mph time of 6.7 seconds, and highway passing is effortless without the engine sounding out of step with the vehicle's pace. Around town, the suspension absorbs rough pavement comfortably without feeling floaty, while on winding mountain roads it remains composed with controlled brake dive, minimal squat, and modest body roll. Rather than encouraging sporty driving, the tuning prioritizes predictable, reassuring control.
The production model features Nissan's E-Pedal function, which allows the vehicle to come to a complete stop using regenerative braking alone when lifting off the accelerator, alongside a Smooth Stop feature that softens conventional two-pedal braking. Physically, the five-passenger SUV measures 183.1 inches long, 72.8 inches wide, and 67.7 inches high on a 106.5-inch wheelbase, with a manufacturer curb weight of 4,065 pounds. Compared to the gas-only Rogue, the Hybrid matches front legroom and offers slightly more rear headroom, though it loses 2.3 inches of rear legroom and 8.2 cubic feet of maximum cargo capacity. Nissan estimates fuel economy at 41 mpg city, 35-36 mpg highway, and 37-38 mpg combined, yielding a total driving range of 518 to 532 miles (up to 523 miles estimated by Nissan), placing it close to the AWD Honda CR-V Hybrid and Toyota RAV4 Woodland.
Going on sale in November with a base price of $37,065, the 2027 Rogue Hybrid arrives in dealerships ahead of the redesigned non-hybrid model expected in January, initially sharing showroom space with the previous-generation gas model. The lineup includes the entry-level SV, the sportier SR, and the top-tier Platinum trim. All grades come standard with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, and a lower center console shelf, while higher trims offer dual 14.3-inch displays, upgraded ProPilot Assist, and a 360-degree camera.
