Nissan Unveils Z Kaze Concept With T-Top Roof and 1990s Tuner Style

The Z31- and Z32-generation Z cars remain among Nissan's best work. While the GT-R often commands the spotlight, the Z car originated as a dedicated sports car for the everyday driver before sports car prices escalated in the mid-1990s. Now, Nissan's latest concept car pays homage both to the era of classic tuner culture and the company's open-roof heritage with the Nissan Z Kaze concept.

The show car features a distinctive Pacific Teal paint finish alongside a custom T-top roof fitted with removable glass panels. This setup brings back the open-air configuration previously celebrated on vintage models like the 1985 300ZX, offering an appealing balance between a coupe and a convertible.

Beyond its roof and paintwork, the Nissan Z Kaze incorporates comprehensive carbon-fiber components across the hood, fender flares, hood vents, and aerodynamic elements. It rides on an authentic, fully restored set of vintage NISMO LMGT2 multi-piece wheels originally manufactured by RAYS in 1996. The two-piece LMGT2 design traces its lineage back to the three-piece LMGT1 wheels built for the legendary R33 Skyline GT-R 400R.

Under the skin, the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 sports car receives a performance upgrade tailored for enthusiasts. The build is fitted with specialized NISMO suspension components as well as aftermarket hardware from GReddy, including an upgraded intercooler, a modified air filter setup, and a Supreme SP exhaust system.

Nissan is premiering the Z Kaze concept at the ZCON event in Phoenix, Arizona, with plans to showcase it next at the Japanese Classic Car Show.
