Introduced in late 1999 for the 2000 model year and produced through 2006, the fifth-generation Nissan Sentra (chassis code B15) moved the nameplate decisively into the compact sedan category. Built on Nissan's front-wheel-drive MS platform shared with contemporary Sunny and Almera models, the B15 dropped the two-door coupe body style offered in previous generations and was sold exclusively as a four-door sedan. Compared to its B14 predecessor, the B15 featured increased exterior dimensions, higher structural rigidity, improved cabin sound insulation, and a completely redesigned interior with better ergonomics. Powertrain choices centered around inline-four gasoline engines, starting with the 1.8-liter QG18DE for mainstream trims and the 2.0-liter SR20DE in early SE models, while the sporty SE-R and SE-R Spec V variants introduced for the 2002 model year utilized the larger 2.5-liter QR25DE engine. Transmission pairings included a 4-speed automatic alongside 5-speed and 6-speed manual gearboxes depending on the trim level. A mid-cycle facelift for the 2004 model year brought a revised front fascia with a new grille and headlight design, updated taillights, and refreshed interior trim packages.
