The Ford Escort Mk5/Mk6 is the final European Escort generation, produced from 1990 to 2002 across a wide array of body styles.

The fifth-generation European Escort debuted in September 1990 built on the CE14 platform. Following early critical feedback, Ford implemented a major chassis and exterior overhaul in 1992 (Mk5b) and a oval-themed front redesign in 1995 (Mk6). Available body configurations included three- and five-door hatchbacks, a four-door saloon, an estate, and a Karmann cabriolet.

Powertrains introduced 16-valve DOHC Zetec gasoline engines (1.6L, 1.8L, 2.0L) alongside Endura-D turbodiesels. The crown jewel of the series was the homologation special Escort RS Cosworth featuring permanent four-wheel drive and a 227 hp turbocharged engine. The Escort was succeeded by the Ford Focus in 1998, with economy editions staying in production until 2002.
