The second-generation Cadillac Eldorado was manufactured from 1954 through 1956 on General Motors' full-size C-body platform with a 129-inch wheelbase. Shifting from a hand-built specialty car into a standardized series model, it utilized standard Series 62 body stampings while retaining custom rear quarter panels with sharply defined vertical tailfins. For the 1956 model year, Cadillac expanded the model hierarchy by designating the convertible as the Eldorado Biarritz and introducing a companion hardtop coupe named the Eldorado Seville, which featured a padded Vanamid vinyl roof cover and bespoke interior appointments tailored for elite luxury buyers.

Mechanical development advanced significantly throughout the three-year production cycle. The 331 cubic-inch (5.4-liter) V8 produced 230 horsepower in 1954, increasing to 270 horsepower in 1955 via a dual four-barrel carburetor intake manifold setup. For 1956, displacement grew to 365 cubic inches (6.0 liters), boosting output to 305 horsepower paired with a refined four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Standard technical equipment included power steering, power drum brakes, power window lifts, power seats, and premium whitewall tires mounted on saber-spoke aluminum wheels.
