Cadillac Escalade IQL Emerges as One of the World's Longest SUVs

Similar to its gasoline-powered counterpart, which has featured an extended ESV variant for several years, Cadillac has now elongated its electric Escalade IQ. Unlike the ESV model that boasts a longer wheelbase, the Escalade IQL retains the standard IQ's axle-to-axle distance of 136.2 inches but stretches the overall body by 4.2 inches. This results in an impressive length of 228.5 inches (5.83 meters) from front to back.

With this extension, the Escalade IQL becomes one of the lengthiest production vehicles available, surpassing the Escalade ESV by 1.5 inches. It also outpaces models like the Jeep Grand Wagoneer L, Chevrolet Suburban, and Lincoln Navigator L. Only a select few production cars, excluding pickup trucks, exceed its length, including the Rolls-Royce Phantom EWB, Bentley Mulsanne EWB, Mercedes S-Class Pullman, and the classic Maybach 62. The Bugatti Royale, measuring 252 inches (6.4 meters), is a notable exception.

The spacious Cadillac maximizes its extended frame by offering third-row passengers over four inches more legroom and an additional inch of headroom. Cargo capacity has also increased, now holding 24.2 cubic feet with all seats in place, a 0.5 cubic foot improvement. Folding the third row expands the space to 75.4 cubic feet, and removing the second row further enlarges the cargo area to 125.2 cubic feet. The front trunk remains steady at 12.2 cubic feet.

The Escalade IQL is characterized by its grand scale, featuring 24-inch wheels equipped with 35-inch tires and a substantial 205-kWh battery pack. It embodies American luxury and excess in its electric iteration, maintaining a robust 750 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque similar to the standard IQ model. The dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system allows acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, compared to the shorter model's sub-five-second performance.

While the vehicle's weight hasn't been specified, it is expected to be around 9,000 pounds, comparable to a GMC Hummer EV. The towing capacity is slightly reduced by 500 pounds relative to the standard Escalade IQ but remains formidable at 7,500 pounds. The Escalade IQL is equipped with advanced features such as independent and adaptive air suspension, Magnetic Ride Control 4.0, and Super Cruise. Despite its increased size and weight, Cadillac estimates a consistent range of 460 miles. Additionally, a 10-minute charge at a DC station can add approximately 116 miles of range.

Redesigned Exterior and Enhanced Visibility

Cadillac didn't stop at merely extending the SUV's length. The Escalade IQL showcases a more upright rear design and updated C-pillars. A distinguishing feature is the significantly larger quarter glass on the elongated model, which likely improves visibility by eliminating the bulky panel found on the standard IQ that previously obstructed the rear view.

Luxurious Interior and Advanced Technology

Inside this seven-seater giant, Cadillac continues to prioritize spaciousness and technology. The front boasts a 55-inch curved display, while second-row passengers can enjoy 12.6-inch tablets when the Executive Second Row package is selected. This optional package also includes an impressive 42-speaker audio system distributed throughout the expansive cabin. Even the base model comes with a substantial 21-speaker setup.

The Escalade IQL is priced at $132,695 before additional options, making it $2,705 more expensive than the standard IQ. Production is slated to begin in mid-2025, with availability in the United States, Canada, and select international markets.
