The sixth-generation Cadillac De Ville (1985–1993) transitioned to front-wheel drive and a space-efficient unibody platform architecture. The model represented a key landmark of its era within the Cadillac lineup.

The sixth-generation Cadillac De Ville was produced from 1985 through 1993 on General Motors' front-wheel-drive C-body unibody platform. Transitioning to a transverse V8 drivetrain dramatically reduced exterior footprint while maintaining six-passenger interior capacity. For 1989, the sedan received a wheelbase extension and refined exterior sheet metal. A De Ville Touring Sedan (DTS) package was introduced in 1991, offering firmer suspension tuning, leather bucket seats, and subtle body trim.

Power originally came from a 4.1-liter HT4100 V8 (130 hp), upgraded to a 4.5-liter V8 (155–180 hp) for 1988, and finally a 4.9-liter V8 generating 200 horsepower starting in 1991. Power reached the front wheels through 4-speed automatic transaxles (4T60 and electronically controlled 4T60-E). Equipment featured available ABS braking, driver airbag, digital climate control, and Bose sound systems.
