The third-generation Cadillac De Ville was manufactured from 1965 to 1970 on GM's newly engineered perimeter frame chassis. It showcased bold, vertical side sculpting and stacked dual headlights (which transitioned back to a horizontal layout for 1969). Body configurations included a hardtop coupe, hardtop sedan, pillared sedan, and convertible. This generation solidifed De Ville's position as Cadillac's best-selling model series, accounting for over 50% of the division's total sales volume during the period.

Initial models carried a 429 cubic-inch (7.0-liter) V8 producing 340 horsepower, upgraded in 1968 to a massive 472 cubic-inch (7.7-liter) V8 delivering 375 gross horsepower. Power went to the rear axle via a Turbo Hydra-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Front disc brakes became standard in 1969, accompanied by options like a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, power locks, and climate control.
