The Lancer III (C10) vehicle generation was manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors from 1983 to 1988 and offered in sedan, hatchback body configurations.
The third-generation Mitsubishi Lancer, marketed in many regions as the Lancer Fiore under the C10 platform designation, was launched in 1983. The major engineering milestone of this generation was the transition from a traditional rear-wheel-drive layout to a transverse front-wheel-drive architecture shared with the contemporary Mirage and Colt lines. This layout yielded improved packaging efficiency and interior space within compact exterior dimensions, available in four-door sedan and five-door hatchback configurations. Engineering of the Lancer III (C10) (factory code C10) emphasized high structural rigidity, aerodynamic efficiency, and optimized interior spatial packaging. Built with reinforced body structures utilizing high-tensile steel alloys, the platform delivered reduced curb weight alongside improved occupant crash protection. Engine offerings consisted of 1.2, 1.5, and 1.6-liter naturally aspirated petrol engines, as well as a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4G32T inline-four. Additionally, a 1.8-liter 4D65 naturally aspirated diesel engine entered the lineup for the first time. Transmissions included four-speed and five-speed manuals alongside three-speed automatics. Minor front-end facelifts refreshed lighting elements and radiator grilles in 1985 and 1986. The powertrain lineup incorporated efficient engine families paired with robust manual, automatic, or continuously variable transmissions depending on trim selection.
