The Legend Returns: 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero Revealed

Mitsubishi has officially unveiled the fifth-generation Pajero (also known as the Montero), resurrecting its iconic off-roader after the previous global model bowed out in 2021. Built on a heavily reinforced ladder-frame platform shared with the Triton pickup, the new three-row SUV features increased high-tensile steel for improved rigidity, durability, and on-road composure.

The exterior embraces a boxy, imposing aesthetic inspired by Mitsubishi's recent design language, featuring bulging fenders, high ground clearance, generous underbody protection, and substantial suspension travel. Key dimensions include an overall length of 193.7 inches (4,920 mm), width of 75.8 inches (1,925 mm), height of 75.2 inches (1,910 mm), and a 113.0-inch (2,870 mm) wheelbase with matching 64.2-inch (1,630 mm) tracks front and rear. Off-road capability is supported by 9.1 inches (230 mm) of ground clearance, a 52:48 front-to-rear weight distribution, and approach, breakover, and departure angles of 30.4, 22.6, and 25.8 degrees, respectively. The traditional tailgate spare tire has moved underneath, and the SUV rides on 255/55 R20 Toyo Open Country H/T or Bridgestone Dueler H/T tires.

Power comes from a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine producing 204 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Off-road hardware includes a high-mounted double-wishbone front suspension, a new five-link rigid rear axle, and the Super Select 4WD-II (SS4-II) system with 2WD mode, low-range gearing, and a locking center differential. Mitsubishi’s Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) coordinates the 4WD system, Active Yaw Control (AYC), stability control, and ABS across terrain modes including Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock.

Inside, the cabin accommodates seven passengers with sliding and tumbling second-row seats. Premium appointments include acoustic glass, tri-zone automatic climate control, a cooled console compartment, and a 12-speaker Yamaha audio system. Dual 14.3-inch digital displays (12.3-inch on base trims) dominate the dash, complete with physical controls and a digital Multi Meter displaying pitch, roll, altitude, compass heading, and torque distribution. Mitsubishi also plans to expand the Pajero nameplate into a dedicated off-road family with at least two smaller upcoming models.
