The second-generation Honda Civic was produced from 1979 to 1983, featuring enlarged dimensions and refined CVCC II engines.
The second-generation Honda Civic (SL/SS/SR/ST) arrived in June 1979, presenting a larger, more modern body with angular lines and expanded interior space. Offered as a three-door or five-door hatchback, four-door sedan, and five-door station wagon, the new model brought improved cabin materials and superior noise insulation compared to its predecessor.
Powering the vehicle were revised 1.3-liter EJ (68 hp) and 1.5-liter EM (80 hp) CVCC II inline-four engines offering better thermal efficiency and lower emission levels. Transmission options expanded to include 4-speed and 5-speed manuals alongside upgraded 2-speed and 3-speed Hondamatic automatics. A 1981 mid-cycle update introduced rectangular headlights and integrated molded bumpers.
