Honda Alpha Electric SUV Will Debut in December and Enter Global Production in India
Honda has officially revealed the name for its upcoming global electric SUV: the Honda Alpha. The vehicle is scheduled to make its worldwide premiere in India on December 2, 2026, marking a pivotal step in the Japanese automaker’s transition toward electrification.
In addition to hosting the global debut, India has been selected as the worldwide manufacturing and export base for the Alpha. Toshiyuki Yanagisawa, President and Chief Executive Officer of Honda Cars India, highlighted the model as a crucial turning point for the automaker’s electric mobility efforts in the region, emphasizing that it reflects Honda’s commitment to providing advanced zero-emission transportation without compromising driving enjoyment, build quality, and reliability.
Building a primary global electric model in India represents a notable strategic departure for Honda, which has traditionally centered global vehicle launches and major manufacturing operations in Japan or North America. This move aligns with Honda's broader electrification targets and concurrent global hybrid platform initiatives.
Visually, the production model is closely derived from the Honda 0 Alpha concept vehicle previously showcased at the Japan Mobility Show. An official teaser released by the automaker shows the SUV under wraps, displaying a distinctive profile with a tall, upright, and square-cut rear section. The Alpha will also be the brand’s first production model in India to wear Honda’s redesigned, retro-inspired H badge, which traces its roots to the early 1960s.
Detailed technical specifications, including battery pack capacity, electric driving range, and powertrain outputs, have not yet been announced. Honda has not disclosed pricing or sales timelines outside India. No export markets have been named, and sales in the United States remain unconfirmed.
