The sedan body style (chassis code FE) gained a 1.4-inch (35 mm) longer wheelbase, reaching 107.7 inches, alongside a 0.5-inch wider rear track. Honda streamlined the body configurations by eliminating the two-door coupe, retaining only the four-door sedan and five-door hatchback (chassis code FL). Exterior styling shifted to cleaner, more traditional proportions with lowered beltlines and A-pillars pulled rearward by nearly two inches to significantly improve driver visibility.

The powertrain portfolio features an entry-level 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder (K20C2) producing 158 horsepower, alongside an upgraded 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four producing 180 to 200 horsepower. The performance-oriented Civic Si utilizes the 1.5-liter turbo unit generating 200 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque, paired exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox with rev-matching capabilities and a helical limited-slip differential. Standard variants employ a refined continuously variable transmission (CVT), while international markets heavily feature the e:HEV two-motor hybrid system pairing an Atkinson-cycle 2.0-liter engine with dual electric motors for an aggregate output of 184 horsepower.

The chassis utilizes front MacPherson struts and an independent multi-link rear suspension tuned with low-friction ball joints and fluid-filled compliance bushings for improved ride composure and steering precision. The cabin introduced a minimalist dashboard highlighted by an unbroken metal honeycomb mesh concealing the air vents, an available 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen. Active safety was upgraded through the Honda Sensing suite, which transitioned to a single high-speed wide-angle camera setup that processes imagery faster and detects pedestrians, cyclists, and road lines more accurately than previous radar-based units.
