Unveiled in May 2015, the AN120/AN130 series introduced Toyota's FIRM (Frame with Integrated Rigidity Mechanism) ladder frame, providing a 20% increase in torsional rigidity. The suspension offers three regional tuning options (Standard, Heavy Duty, and Comfort), wrapped in muscular bodywork featuring available full-LED headlights and Single, Extra, and Double Cab configurations. Engineers paid meticulous attention to structural body rigidity, minimizing noise, vibration, and harshness levels while enhancing cabin material quality. The refined chassis architecture delivered excellent ride comfort and predictable handling characteristics across both urban streets and high-speed highways.

Powertrains debuted Global Diesel (GD) engines: the 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV (150 hp) and 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV (177–204 hp) turbodiesels, complemented by 2.7L and 4.0L V6 petrol units. Transmissions include 6-speed manuals and 6-speed automatics with electronic dial 4WD switching. Facelifts in 2017 and 2020 introduced aggressive front styling and the GR Sport performance trim. The AN120 generation remains in active production. High levels of active and passive safety were corroborated by outstanding crash test results and comprehensive driver assistance technologies. Thanks to exceptional mechanical endurance and robust powertrain engineering, this generation earned global acclaim across all major automotive markets.
