Revealed at the 2014 New York Auto Show, the fifth-generation Outback (BS code) introduced a refined body shell featuring a 67% increase in torsional rigidity and improved aerodynamic efficiency. Standard features included the X-Mode off-road terrain management system regulating engine response, Lineartronic CVT behavior, and AWD braking controls. Power was supplied by the 2.5L FB25 (175 hp), 3.6L EZ36D (256 hp), and 2.0L diesel engine. The engineering setup effectively combined the low center of gravity inherent to the horizontally-opposed engine layout with a rigid chassis frame, delivering precise handling and composure across dry pavement and slippery surfaces alike.
