Nissan Cedric IX (Y33) photos

Debuting in June 1995, the ninth-generation Nissan Cedric (chassis code Y33) refined the four-door hardtop formula established by its predecessor while introducing major mechanical upgrades. Like the Y32, the Y33 lineup was split between the traditional luxury Brougham trim with one-piece headlamps and the athletic Gran Turismo variant featuring quad round headlights, while formal fleet sedans continued separately on the Y31 platform. The most significant advancement over the Y32 generation was the replacement of the aging iron-block VG V6 engines with Nissan's newly developed aluminum-block VQ-series V6 powerplants, which reduced weight and improved efficiency. Buyers could choose from the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter VQ20DE, 2.5-liter VQ25DE, and 3.0-liter VQ30DE, or the flagship turbocharged 3.0-liter VQ30DET. Additionally, the Y33 generation introduced an ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive option powered by the 2.5-liter RB25DET inline-six turbo engine, alongside the carryover 2.8-liter RD28 inline-six diesel. Instead of the five-speed automatic used in some Y32 models, the Y33 utilized refined electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmissions across the range. A June 1997 facelift brought updated front fascias, revised rear combination lamps, and enhanced safety features. Sold primarily in Japan, the Y33 Cedric was produced until June 1999.
