Hyundai Sonata VI (YF) gallery (2009–2014)

The sixth-generation Hyundai Sonata (YF) ran from 2009 to 2014, breaking traditional design conventions with dramatic four-door coupe styling.

The sixth-generation Hyundai Sonata (YF platform) debuted in September 2009. Showcasing Hyundai's bold Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy, the YF featured a swooping coupe-like roofline and prominent chrome side beltline moldings. In North America, the line shifted exclusively to efficient four-cylinder engines.

Powertrain choices included naturally aspirated 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter GDI Theta II engines, a high-output 2.0-liter Turbo GDI (274 hp), and a full Hybrid variant utilizing lithium-polymer battery tech. All models were paired with six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions.
