The fifth-generation Hyundai Sonata (NF platform) debuted in August 2004. Constructed on Hyundai's N-Car platform with a 2,730 mm wheelbase, the NF combined refined European styling with top-tier NHTSA crash test safety scores.
Engine technology showcased the debut of 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter Theta CVVT four-cylinder engines, a 3.3-liter Lambda V6 (235 hp), and a 2.0-liter CRDi turbodiesel. A 2007 update (marketed as Sonata Transform) refreshed the front grille, lighting elements, and overhauled the interior dashboard assembly.
