Hyundai unveiled the next-generation Tucson crossover with hybrids making up to 292 hp
Hyundai has unveiled the next-generation Tucson crossover aimed at export markets. The vehicle has grown larger than its predecessor, received a radically redesigned interior, modernized hybrid powertrains, and a suite of advanced electronic driver assistants. The start of global sales for the model is scheduled for 2027.
The crossover's exterior styling is executed in the brand's signature Art of Steel design language. At the front, a wide LED daytime running light strip spans the entire width of the body, while the main headlights are moved to the lower part of the front bumper. Optional Micro Pixel Lighting adaptive optics feature 25,600 individual diodes. The system can shape a precise light beam and adapt to adverse weather conditions like rain or snowfall. The vertical rear lights are connected by a thin light bar. Engineers increased the door opening angle from 73 to 83 degrees to facilitate entry. The color palette has been expanded with Ranger Green, Kodiak Blue, Driftwood Gray, and Red Rock Orange shades with matte, metallic, or pearl finishes. Wheel rims are offered in sizes from 17 to 20 inches. For the American market, an off-road XRT Pro modification has been prepared, distinguished by a ground clearance of 210 mm versus the standard 180 mm, tow hooks, and mud tires.
The interior is virtually devoid of physical buttons. In front of the driver are a flat-top and flat-bottom steering wheel and a 9.9-inch virtual instrument cluster, while the Pleos Connect infotainment system running Android Automotive OS is equipped with a 17-inch screen supporting gesture control. The Gleo AI voice assistant is integrated into the suite. The center console features an extended armrest, two 15-watt wireless chargers, a hidden compartment, and USB-C ports, while climate and audio controls are handled by touch-sensitive keys.
The gasoline engine lineup consists of a 1.6-liter turbo engine and a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated unit with power outputs ranging from 150 to 193 hp and torque from 191 to 264 Nm. They are paired with a six-speed manual, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and six- and eight-speed automatic transmissions. Acceleration to 100 km/h ranges from 9.5 to 12.4 seconds, with front-wheel or all-wheel drive available. Hybrid versions are based on a 1.6-liter turbo engine and a six-speed automatic transmission: the classic HEV hybrid develops 236–245 hp (380 Nm) with a 1.49 kWh battery, accelerating to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, while the PHEV plug-in hybrid delivers 292 hp (350 Nm) with a 17.1 kWh battery and 0-to-100 km/h acceleration in 7.9 seconds.
The suite of off-road assistants has been expanded with the Smart Terrain Assist system that evaluates wheel grip in real time, the Target Speed Control terrain speed maintenance function, the Memory Reversing Assist reverse trajectory memory assistant at speeds up to 30 km/h, Ground View Monitor surround-view cameras with a "transparent hood" function, and the Trailer Reversing Assist trailer maneuvering assistant.
