The seventh-generation GMC Suburban enjoyed an impressive 19-year production run from 1973 to 1991 on the celebrated Rounded Line (Square Body) full-size truck architecture. For the first time, Suburban adopted a true four-door passenger body on an extended 129.5-inch wheelbase capable of seating up to nine passengers with generous luggage room. Available in 1500 (half-ton) and heavy-duty 2500 (three-quarter-ton) series, drivetrain designations shifted from C/K to R/V in 1987 with the rollout of throttle-body electronic fuel injection (TBI). Gasoline engines spanned the 5.0L (305), 5.7L (350), and the mighty 7.4L (454) big-block V8, while a 6.2L Detroit Diesel V8 became available in 1982. Transmission choices included TH350, TH400, 700R4 four-speed overdrive automatics, and manual four-speeds. Multiple styling updates introduced stacked rectangular headlamps and refined cabins across North America and Middle Eastern export markets.
