The second-generation GMC Suburban Carryall was introduced for 1941 riding on GM's updated light-truck chassis and showcasing streamlined Art Deco styling with prominent front grilles and integrated headlamps. The vehicle retained its versatile all-steel carryall wagon body layout with room for up to eight occupants, offering either rear panel barn doors or a split tailgate with an upward-lifting rear glass. It was powered by GMC's proven 228 cubic inch inline-six engine mated to a floor-shifted three-speed or heavy-duty four-speed manual gearbox. The underlying structure consisted of a rigid ladder frame with solid axles front and rear supported by durable semi-elliptic leaf springs and hydraulic drum brakes all around. With the onset of World War II, civilian automotive production was heavily curtailed, and the majority of units manufactured during this era were allocated directly to military and essential wartime transport duties across North America.
