GMC Unveils a Completely Reimagined Sierra 1500
GMC has pulled the covers off the 2027 Sierra 1500, giving its full-size pickup a major update inside and out. The redesigned model is scheduled to reach dealerships later this year and will introduce two fresh V8 engine choices.
Under the hood, the truck will add General Motors’ latest small-block V8s, including 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter versions. Official output figures have not been released yet, though the larger engine is expected to deliver strong performance.
These engines will join the existing TurboMax four-cylinder and Duramax diesel V6, with all four powertrains paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
New Design, New Cabin, New Screens
The updated Sierra borrows some visual cues from the Sierra EV, including revised lighting and a more upright grille. GMC says each trim will have its own distinct front-end look.
Inside, the truck gets a thoroughly modernized cabin with up to three dashboard displays. The standout feature is a 16.3-inch infotainment screen that can tilt to expose a hidden storage area. A separate 11.5-inch passenger display is also available, and its cover can partially conceal the screen when needed.
Another new feature is the MultiPro center console, which can be configured into a work surface. When the 2027 Sierra launches, it will be sold in Pro, Elevation, AT4, and Denali trims.
AT4X Brings the Off-Road Hardware
GMC is also highlighting the Sierra AT4X, which comes with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, Multimatic jounce control dampers, and electronic locking differentials at both ends.
Its exterior treatment includes a unique hood, a 2.0-inch lift, a special grille insert, and a tougher front bumper. An AEV Edition package will remain available as well.
Inside, the AT4X features unique trim details, stronger front seat bolsters, a flat-bottom steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, and stainless-steel speaker grilles on the doors.
Denali Ultimate Sits at the Top
At the top of the range, the Sierra Denali Ultimate will be powered by the 6.6-liter V8 and loaded with technology. GMC says the cabin will offer more than 60 inches of combined screen space, including the articulating infotainment and passenger displays, a 12.2-inch driver display, a 15.0-inch head-up display, and an 8.5-inch digital rearview mirror.
It will also include a 16-speaker Bose Premium Series audio setup, a three-year Super Cruise subscription, and forged wood interior accents.
Pricing Coming Later
GMC will announce pricing for the 2027 Sierra 1500 closer to launch. More details on performance and final specifications are expected later this year.
For reference, the 2026 Sierra starts at $41,095 including destination, while the AT4X and Denali Ultimate sit in the mid-$80,000 range. The new model is likely to cost more.
